Kim Byung Man’s ‘Master’ to Come to an End
KBS2′s Gag Concert’s longest-running segment, Master will come to an end after three years and 11 months.
Executive producer Park Jung Min of KBS told enews over the phone on November 9, “Master came to a close with today’s shooting. The segment will drop out of the program after its final airing on November 13.”
Since it started on December 2007, Master has grown to be the most popular and the longest-running segment while experiencing many ups and downs over the past few years.
As Kim Byung Man has been steadily gaining popularity, however, he has undertaken several more obligations, such as SBS’s The Laws of the Jungle, and is under a tight schedule. In addition, the issue of the lack of subject matter has come to the forefront.
Park said, “Kim Byung Man has been expressing his intention to quit the segment, citing the depletion of subject matter. After the segment is cancelled, there will be no following segment led by Kim. So viewers cannot see Kim for a while,” meaning Kim will tentatively be resigning from Gag Concert.
Through the segment Master, Kim created as many as 250 unique and comical characters including so-called numb tongue master who is unable to taste anything, a standing stone master who lives in one fixed posture, a match-making master and a master in breaking bricks. Based on the popularity of the comedy, he was nominated for the grand prize at KBS Entertainment Awards for three consecutive years.
