‘Bridal Mask’ Closes its Curtains with Highest Rating
KBS’ Bridal Mask successfully ended with the highest rating.
According to AGB Nielson Media Research, Bridal Mask, which aired its last episode on September 6, recorded 22.9 percent. This was 1.4 percent higher than the episode aired on September 5, which received 21.5 percent. With each episode consistently rising, Bridal Mask was able to conclude with success.
In the last episode, Kimura Shuji (Park Ki Woong) arrived at the wedding of Kang Tto (Ju Won) and Mok Dan (Jin Se Yeon) where he fired his gun. Mok Dan died after blocking the shot from hitting Kang To, and Kimura Shunji shot himself and ended his own life.
Bridal Mask began on May 30, starting with ratings of 12.7 percent. Despite going up against So Ji Sub and Lee Yeon Hee in SBS’ Ghost and Kim Sun Ah in MBC’s I Do, I Do,, Bridal Mask with new actors Ju Won and Jin Se Yeon in the roles of the main characters, were able to dominate the competition.
Based on the comic by Heo Young Man, Bridal Mask was able to portray the story of Lee Kang To, who became pro-Japanese for his poor family and later the nation’s Robin Hood. The drama received much praise for its complete story, living characters, and the passionate acting of the cast members.
It’s been known that Bridal Mask had a rough times during production, with many of its cast being popular actors in Japan.
Despite all that and the sensitive relationship between Korea and Japan at the moment, the drama received love for telling the gloomy tale of the Japanese imperialism in Korea as it was.
Meanwhile, MBC’s Arang and the Magistrate recorded 10.9 percent in ratings, while SBS’ To the Beautiful You received a low 5.4 percent.
