Big Bang Wins MTV Europe Music Award
Big Bang has achieved another ‘first,’ becoming the first Korean artist to be honored at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
The group took home the Worldwide Act Award at the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards, which was held at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast on November 6.
Big Bang was the first group to receive the new award added this year, which serves to recognize and celebrate the diversity of music from all over the world.
Upon announcing Big Bang as the winner of the award, the group’s song Tonight poured out from the speakers and ushered the members on to the stage. “We’re Big Bang, from Korea,” said the members in their acceptance speech. “It’s nice to meet you all. We’re all the more grateful because this is an award given to us by the fans. We’re, once again, thankful to the VIPs. We hope that Korean music will spread through this opportunity.”
Big Bang beat out fellow nominees from all around the world, including Britney Spears (North America), Lena (Europe), Abdelfattah Grini (Africa, India, Middle East) and Restart (South America) to garner the most votes and become the first Korean artist to win a music award in Europe.
The celebrations will continue as the boys join their label mates at the 15th Anniversary YG Family Concert in December and January.
