‘The performer’ Kim Jang Hoon will be flying over to China to diversify the Korean wave market overseas.

On February 18, 2012, Kim Jang Hoon will be holding his first exclusive overseas concert in the Shanghai Grand Stage, which can hold a total of 5,000 people.

The Shanghai Grand Stage is one of Shanghai’s most famous concert venues, where many hallyu singers and pop stars, including Beyonce and ABBA, have performed in the past.

Chinese executives had been looking for a new type of Korean wave and after finding information on Kim Jang Hoon’s performances, visited Korea three times in order to attend his concerts. After seeing his performance, the executives sent in many offers to Kim, which in the end resulted in his Shanghai concert.

On November 2, CEO Hwang Gyu Wan, from Kim’s agency, stated, “Kim Jang Hoon was only interested in Korean tours, but he was touched by the persistent love calls sent in by the Chinese agencies, and decided to hold a concert in China.”

The biggest reason why Kim agreed to hold the China concert was because with the help of many local companies, he would be able to overcome the biggest reason why he continuously avoided overseas performances. Because local production circumstances would limit his production ability, Kim used to avoid holding concerts in overseas venues, but this time, his concert will be produced by Shanghai’s biggest production company Magnolia, and will receive technical sponsoring by China’s largest broadcasting group Shanghai Media Group. He is expecting the big sponsors to help him overcome the obstacles in production that prevented him from holding overseas shows.

That a performance singer, very unlike the idols currently at the center of the Korean wave, will be performing in China has brought in the attention of Korean and Chinese officials and producers.

Kim Jang Hoon left the hospital temporarily after being hospitalized for panic disorder in order to attend a meeting with film special effects teams for his year-end concert One Touch on October 31, and also flew over to Shanghai on the same day. On November 1, he met with officials from Shanghai Media Group to measure up the performance hall, and led a general meeting on the concert to explain his plans for display. On November 2, he held interviews with 17 media outlets in order to promote his China concert.

On November 3, he will finish his five day Chinese promotion schedule with a meeting with producers in Nanjing and Beijing to plan his China tour, which follow his Shanghai concert in February.
