Actress Min Ji Hyun of new CGV drama The Bangja Chronicles is garnering interest because her servant girl character is prettier than the beautiful Chun Hyang of the well-known Korean folktale Legend of Chun Hyang.

Min plays Hyang Dan in the four-part drama, which premieres on November 5. As Chun Hyang’s (Lee Eun Woo) servant, Hyang Dan may appear childish and naïve, but she gives her heart and body to Lee Mong Ryong boldly and says she’d even be his concubine.

A highlight reel was shown at a production presentation for the drama on November 1, and all eyes were on Min’s Hyang Dan character, who stole the spotlight with her porcelain skin, cute smile and curvaceous figure.

“Although there aren’t many scenes with Hyang Dan, she’s a character with presence,” said the actress. And Hyang Dan does indeed command her presence in the 20-minute reel.

In the scene of Hyang Dan playing in the water with Chun Hyang, she radiates charm with her hourglass figure, full chest and flawless, porcelain skin. The daring, yet sexy bed scene with Mong Ryong also turned a few heads.

Min reiterated her pride in the character once again at the reporters’ roundtable that followed the production presentation. She said, “I don’t usually like acting like I’m pretty, and in this drama, in particular, I didn’t have to try to look prettier.” The actress continued, “I was happy because I only had one hanbok (traditional Korean clothing), and I could sit on the floor and act comfortably throughout filming.”

“I really like being compared to the original Hyang Dan (Ryu Hyun Kyung) as well,” said Min. “They say I resemble Ryu Hyun Kyung, and I like and am thankful for that remark in and of itself.”

The drama’s director Bong Man Dae said of the actress, “Min Ji Hyun came to the audition and shed tears, asking if it seemed like she would do well. I felt Min Ji Hyun’s passion by [seeing] that side of her.” He continued, “I’ve lost my temper on set before, but I was very satisfied to see her follow [my lead] and work hard.”

The Bangja Chronicles is a romance drama centered on a love triangle between Bangja, Chun Hyang and Lee Mong Ryong, but the sex scene between Lee Mong Ryong and Hyang Dan has increased interest in the drama, proving that sex does indeed sell.

Director Bong’s previous works include The Sweet Sex and Love and Cinderella, while Jun Chul Hong of Crying Fist penned the script.
