Lee Jong Seok and Jung Seok Won Had a Kiss Scene Cut Out in ‘R2B’
Jung Ji Hoon (Rain) and Shin Se Kyung weren’t the only couple to have their kiss scene cut out of their film; the Lee Jong Seok and Jung Seok Won couple (?) also had a kiss scene cut out.
The producers of R2B: Return to Base, which premiered on August 15, said, “There was a kiss scene between the two, but it was cut out during editing.”
Jung Seok Won appears as the rescue team member Min Ho, who needs to put the pilots’ lives over his own in emergency rescue situations.
The role doesn’t carry much weight in the final cut currently screening in theaters, but his role originally had more screen time. His scenes were cut out as the producers started to emphasize visuals more than the story while editing the film.
In the edited videos, Jung Seok Won builds a special friendship with Lee Jong Seok, who appears as the rookie pilot Seok Hyun. While having drinks together, the two accidentally end up kissing, teetering between friendship and something more. The scene, however, can’t be seen in the movie now.
Jung Seok Won plays an important part in saving Lee Jong Seok when he’s stranded in North Korea, but because the scenes that showed their close friendship were edited out, the emotions that were supposed to follow the dramatic rescue were somewhat downplayed.
Shin Se Kyung and Jung Ji Hoon’s kiss scene was also cut out in the process of replacing the drama with visuals. Although the two kissed two times, the scenes can be seen nowhere in the film.
Shin Se Kyung previously said about her kiss scene with Jung Ji Hoon, “It didn’t make it into the film, but the kiss scene with Rain was good,” to much jealousy from the singer’s female fans.
Despite all the effort poured into them, the kiss scenes now only exist in the memory of the film’s producers.
