Soo Ae Speaks Up On ‘A Thousand Days’ Promise’
Soo Ae expressed her thoughts on the luxury designer brand sponsor controversy, and said that it was a misunderstanding but that she would work hard to prevent such things from happening in the future.
She spoke up in an interview held at the SBS drama A Thousand Days’ Promise in Gyeonggi-do Paju on October 28.
Recently Soo Ae became an issue among her viewers for appearing in expensive designer brand items which cost millions of won, despite the fact that her character was an ordinary woman who works hard to overcome her difficult environment.
Soo Ae said, “Before the shoot started, I asked the staff to refrain from giving me brand name items so that I can get more into my character. I just used one item as a prop, but that was because I really liked it.”
She added, “Other than that, I think there was a misunderstanding. Most of the items were from domestic brands. The watch was 2.3 million won, and the shoes and bags were all domestic products. They must have been mistaken for popular foreign brands because they look similar, but I think the misunderstanding arose when they wanted to encourage me because they love the drama.”
She emphasized that she would “work hard to the end so that there are no such controversies in the future.”
About her character itself, she said that she felt pressured because her character had so much dialogue, but that she was cheered up by the encouragement of writer Kim Su Hyun that she was doing great.
Soo Ae said, “There’s so much dialogue in the drama. I can’t speak that fast and because I’ve mostly expressed my emotions through actions and expressions, I was pressured at the amount of dialogue. But I’m enjoying shooting the drama because it’s like I’m showing a part of me never seen before.”
“I think writer Kim Su Hyun encouraged me a lot before we started shooting,” Soo Ae added. “I think she knew I was stressed at the dialogue because I was so stiff and because I’m a perfectionist. Even yesterday, she encouraged me with a text message saying that I was ‘doing great’, and that cheered me up.”
“I can’t loosen up even now. While I’m acting, I’m Seo Yeon, and Seo Yeon is me. I’m confident but I’m also acting nervously, worried about how I’ll be received. I’ll work hard in every moment so that I don’t lose my character.”
A Thousand Days’ Promise is about the love between Park Ji Hyung (Kim Rae Won) and Seo Yeon (Soo Ae), who is losing her memory because of early-onset Alzheimer’s.
