The game was a friendly match between the Korean celebrity baseball team Play Boys, which includes Jang Dong Gun, Kim Seung Woo and Hwang Jung Min, and the Japanese professional baseball OB team. Proceeds from the event went toward helping out victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake.

Jang appeared on the field before the game started, sang the Korean national anthem and said with a smile, “It’s my first time in the Tokyo Dome and I’m happy to see all of you gathered here.”

This was the second time the Korean national anthem was sung in Tokyo Dome, the first being in 1996 when baseball player Jo Sung Min joined the Yomiuri Giants.

Jang was originally planning to throw the first ball of the game after singing the national anthem, but was unable to because of shoulder pains.
