With our obsession with tvN’s Reply 1997 firing up, we’re starting up a new series where we introduce to our younger audience some of the songs from the drama that call for nostalgia and why these songs were so significant in the late 1990s.

First up, from episode one of Reply 1997, we have Ahn Jae Wook’s Forever from the hit MBC drama The Star in My Heart.

Ahn Jae Wook might be a familiar name now with so many acting projects under his belt, but he didn’t get popular until he became Kang Min in The Star in My Heart.

He was still a fairly new actor who was first overshadowed by the popular Cha In Pyo and the late Choi Jin Sil, but after this drama and this song, Ahn Jae Wook’s career kicked off.

The Star in My Heart is a Cinderella story about a young poor girl and a rising superstar singer who fall in love with each other, overcoming hardships along the way.

With its romantic storyline, the drama proved to be a huge success, closely reaching a whopping 50 percent in ratings.

When Ahn Jae Wook decorated the ending scene of the drama with a performance of Forever, it rocked the nation and everyone knew the lyrics by heart, as seen in episode one of Reply 1997 when Si Won and her mother are singing it aloud, although off-key.

Even after 15 years since its peak, The Star in My Heart holds a special place in our hearts and was voted as the number one 90’s drama that netizens hope to see a remake of in 2012.

Your love was the only reason for living in this world
