Will Jang Dong Gun Make a Drama Comeback?
Actor Jang Dong Gun, who is currently reviewing roles for a possible comeback to the small screen, has received an offer to play the male lead in Kim Eun Sook’s next drama A Gentleman’s Dignity,
A representative from the actor’s agency AM Entertainment revealed on October 24, “Although it’s true that [Jang Dong Gun] is receiving many offers, he is not yet at the stage of discussing drama roles.”
“Jang Dong Gun is currently out of the country filming Dangerous Liaisons with Cecilia Cheung and Zhang Ziyi in China,” continued the agency rep. “He plans to return to Korea at the end of the year around the release of My Way and will be able discuss his next project after wrapping up filming for the movie.”
Jang has focused on films since appearing in his last drama MBC’s All About Eve in 2000. However, after agency mate and actor Hyun Bin hit the jackpot in Kim Eun Sook’s Secret Garden, Jang has expressed interest in Kim’s upcoming project. Still, as one who pores over every decision, it’s unclear whether this means a return to the small screen for Jang, who ultimately turned down roles in dramas like President and Hanbando after careful consideration.
A source close to the actor said, “It’s tough living in China, and he gains strength through phone conversations with his wife Go So Young and son Min Jun. His acquaintances saw Min Jun’s face at his first birthday party, and, although he doesn’t have double eyelids, he bears a peculiar resemblance to Jang Dong Gun and is handsome.”
Meanwhile, Jang stars alongside Japanese actor Odagiri Joe in My Way, a war film about two young soldiers which is set to open in Korea in December before its release in Japan and China in January.
