EXO’s Popularity Creates ′EXO Syndrome′
EXO’s intense popularity is almost terrifying. The group sells out of the tickets of every concert, tops the charts whenever it releases a song and makes products go out of stock.
It is no exaggeration to say that many people are experiencing ‘EXO effect’ in many places. Their sky-high popularity is ever growing. Here are some of the cases of so called ‘EXO syndrome.’
▶ Outstanding Performances
EXO took over the hearts of teen girls with overwhelmingly good performance in its debut music video. Its synchronized moves and well-designed choreography keep its quality on live stages. As the group has high reputation for its excellent performances, audiences are always looking forward to its concerts. There is always the rush to get the tickets to the global superstar’s show.
As an example, EXO’s first North America Concert tour ‘EXO PLANET #2 -The EXO’luXion-in NORTH AMERICA’ in February was a huge success. The event was a tangible proof to the group’s fame outside Asia. Everywhere its members went (airports, hotels and the concert halls) a huge crowd consisting of local fans, chanting its name, appeared.
▶ Undefeated Records
Just because it is famous for its performance, it does not mean that the group cannot sing. The reason why EXO is loved by people from many nations and generations is that its members have sturdy foundation as a singer, which is to sing well. Each member’s clean voice and other talents hidden behind their flashy appearances make EXO be considered as something beyond a boy group.
From collaborated song to OST, whatever EXO members sang conquered music charts. EXO Xiumin and AOA Jimin’s sweet duet song ‘CALL YOU BAE’ hit the summit of major music charts as soon as it released.
Also, ‘Everytime’, an OST of KBS drama ‘Descendants of the Sun’ by EXO Chen and Punch got huge attention from music lovers. Additionally EXO Baekhyun and miss A Suzy’s ‘Dream’, which was issued in January, stayed on the upper part of music charts ever since.

▶ Selling out Products
EXO is one of the highest-paid commercial models. When the group uses a product, it soon gets heated attention from fans.
Recently, the group has been selected as the face of a chicken brand. The rise of its popularity after hiring a new model isclearly visible. Moreover, EXO member Kai appeared in a web drama about financial reform politics of the Financial Services Commission. Despite its complex theme, young people showed great interest in the drama thanks to him.
Furthermore, EXO plays the role of a beauty icon as it represented Nature Republic for several years. Not long ago, 50,000 Thai fans gathered at the fan signing event which was held to celebrate the launching of the brand’s large-scale flagship store in Bangkok. There were loads of customers who lined up to buy EXO’s favorite products such as ‘Ginseng Royal Cream’ and ‘Aloe Soothing Gel’.
