Psy Says It Took a Long Time for Him to Comes to His Senses
Psy opened up about why it took him over two years to release a new album.
Psy held a press conference for the release of his seventh album at the Conrad Hotel in Seoul on November 30, where he said, "It took a really long time. It has been three years and four months since Gangnam Style and two years and eight months since Gentleman. It took a really time for me to come to my senses."
He continued, "I didn′t know it′d take me this long. Like an honor student says ′Studying is the easiest for me,′ there was a time when writing songs was easy. But whether it was pressure or stress, it was really difficult for many reasons. I worried a lot from thinking ′If I write like this, it won′t do as well as Gangnam Style′ or ′Foreigners won′t get it.′ It took a really time to organize all of those voices into one person."
Psy is making his comeback with the release of his seventh album, which roughly translates to ′This is seventh album Psy.′ It has been three years and five months since he released his last album Psy 6 and two years and eight months since Gentleman. His new album is garnering interest in Korea and abroad, from Billboard in the U.S., the U.K.′s Daily Mail and more media outlets overseas reporting on Psy′s fist album since Gangnam Style.
Psy said, "I began to come to my senses while performing at college festivals in the beginning of the year. I chose this job because I wanted to do what I want to do. And I began to think, why am I not doing what I want and walking on eggshells for other people. After that, I tuned up a lot of songs and chose the songs I thought the old me would′ve written."
Psy continued, "One of the double title songs, Daddy took 19 months. Seven seaons passed for me to make one three-minute-30-second song. The other title song Bell Bottoms came about easily after a festival concert. One song was easy to make, and the other song was really hard to make. I think it′ll be fun to see which song does better."
Meanwhile, Psy will be perform his new songs for the first time at 2015 MAMA in Hong Kong on December 2. Psy will be holding a year-end concert All Night Stand 2015 at the Olympic Park Gymnastics Arena in Seoul from December 24 to 26.
